Allow users to belong to multiple organizations of Port
in progress
Aaron Taylor
Hi,
Updating about our plans for this feature:
- Users can belong to multiple Port organizations which can be "grouped" together. They will be able to switch between them through a UI org switcher. For example: Port Dev and Port Prod
- Each Port organization can be flagged as "Automatic User Access" which will allow anyone signing in via SSO to join that organization as a member.
- We are adding a new user status called "Staged" which lets you add users to Port without sending them an email invitation. You can then assign them to things as with any other user. Once they log in, they will become "Active".
We will will send out further details about this soon to make sure this transition is seamless.

Team, It would be nice to have a workspace influencing dashboard page i.e. widgets vary per workspace.
Is that planned under workspaces already?
Aaron Taylor
Uday Korlimarla: Hi Uday, dashboards that are shared across workspaces (which we will call organizations) won't be supported (if I understood correctly). They will be separated per organization.

Would be nice to also have a workspace-admin as a role

Are there any updates to this? Will this be put on the roadmap? Or are there other ways of dealing with multiple environments?

This feature is also useful for Port's Partner organizations, managing Port for multiple client organizations, allowing for easier login to manage multiple Port accounts

We're using SSO to connect to Port, so it would make a lot of sense for us to be able to switch between workspaces/environments through a simple UI selector. In our use case, it is primarily to have a staging environment for the platform engineering team, and then the production environment for all users.

Milan Dewilde thank you for the additional context! Managing multiple environments definitely makes sense for this feature.

Merged in a post:
Multi tenancy support and ability to sync configurations between tenants
Amit Benano
This way you can have two Port instances, one as your main instance and another for testing. So you can test stuff on one tenant and then sync configurations into the main one

This feature is really needed.
A "Package" could have a different meaning between Team A and Team B.
Having the option to define different Entities, isolated from each other, would be great.
